Should you consider buying a home in Yorkdale?

There are many things to love about Yorkdale. If you grew up in a neighbourhood that had kids learning to ride bikes and doing cartwheels in the streets, or shooting hoops in each other’s driveways, you’re going to feel at home in Yorkdale. If the sight of large trees is like oxygen for you, then you’ll be able to breathe here. If homes crowding each other and the street stress you out, you’re going to feel relaxed when you see the picturesque and park-like properties in this neighbourhood.

While Yorkdale has been widely known as a community with an aging population, the secret is getting out and we’re seeing an influx of young families buying and renovating old homes in the area. Buyers see the value of investing in character homes on large lots close to the lake. They know that with lakefront and golf course estate properties selling for multimillion dollar figures just around the corner, they are in good company.

If the sight of large trees is like oxygen for you, then you’ll be able to breathe here.

The location of Yorkdale is also uniquely appealing. The GO station that sits right at the entry to the neighbourhood (off waterdown road) offers residents a quick and painless way of getting into Toronto whenever the mood strikes. The multiple highways that intersect right above Yorkdale give people the option of exploring the many attractions that sit only a short distance away in a variety of directions. Go up highway 6 for instance and check out African Lion Safari. Or take the QEW and hang out at Niagara Falls for the day. And if you just want to stick close to home, you can choose to spend the day exploring the vast nature sanctuary at the Royal Botanical Gardens right in Yorkdale.

Yorkdale is home to the warmest indoor pool in Burlington. That may not seem important to you now, but if you ever have to join a mom and tot swim class in the winter, you’ll appreciate that 88 degrees!

If you’re just starting out, Yorkdale may present some good options as well. Plains Road is being revitalized and there are lots of condo apartments being constructed as well as live/work townhomes, a great option for people who own a business and would like a storefront.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Lasalle park. This is arguably one of the best parks in the city. Boasting a playground, lawn bowling, baseball diamonds, a splash pad and shallow wading pool, wooded nature trails, lakefront trails, a marina and swans!, who could argue otherwise? It’s also one of the few parks in the city that allows you to book a function and set up for the day and bbq. You can see family parties on the grounds of Lasalle Park every weekend during the summer.
